We taught our second English Class at READ Nepal today. We had the women fill out a paper ‘getting to know you’. Most of them did pretty good with it. We had them get up in front of the class and share a little bit about themselves (in English). Most of them are housewives and mothers and students. They want to learn English to better help their children and just to do better in their lives.
There were a couple who needed help, but hey, that’s why we are there. I took pictures of each of them, with their name tag on and want to learn their names.Having their picture taken doesn't happen very often and they liked seeing themselves. We are going to have prints made and we will hang them in the classroom. I think they will get a kick out of it when we hang them up for all to see. (We have about 36 - 38 women signed up wanting to take the class. A couple of them were absent today. It's more than we wanted in a class, so we divided it into two classes. It's still a good size group. We can't so 'no - too many already.' We will make the best of it and hope we can help them. I think it will be a great experience.
Gene talked to G C and asked him if he would get twenty-two more copies of the student manuals for us. We would like each woman to have her own copy so she can take it home. I think it would be so much easier if they can look at it and study. We have asked them to bring a notebook and pencil and NOT write in the workbook.
This afternoon, Gene has worked on a new water project and talked with Karin and asked if he would be able to meet with DDC in Kathmandu tomorrow to get the project amended. I got the chance to sit in the sun and do a little reading. Nice.
